Finally a country coming to its senses. It's the only rational thing to do, imho.

I think it makes sense. I smoked a lot in HS and early college, but quit about 25 years ago. Which is not to say that I wouldn't mind a hit now and then. But with it being illegal, it's not worth the risk. For a college entrance essay, I wrote an argument for legalizing pot back in 1984. It's nice to see some countries, as you say, coming to their senses.

I think the ban on pot has to do with ideology and ignorance. I'm an advocate of pragmatism, which in this case means legalizing it, taxing it and treating it like alcohol or tobacco. So no minors, no consumption where you can't smoke (unless it's a brownie), no impaired driving.

In the US, the continued ban has to do with antiquated Puritanism and racism. But seeing how same-sex marriage is getting passed by more states, it's probably only a matter of time for pot. At least I hope so.
